The Dinka society is egalitarian. All people, wealthy and poor, contribute to the common good. The Dinka base their lives on values of honor and dignity. From the middle of the twentieth century the Dinkas have been victims of civil war in which millions of Sudanese have been brutally massacred. The killings continued at the time this piece was sculpted.
